Hours of Devours

Coffee Break

What is better than a fresh cup of coffee? Nothing, that’s what.

But we had issues with our coffee a few years ago. The drip pot we used involved a thermal carafe, but it was not keeping coffee hot long enough for both of us to have a decent cup when we were ready for it. The French press we used made fine coffee, but it too was only hot for a few minutes. And since one of us drinks a cup by 6:45 and the other usually wants one an hour or so later, we were constantly washing out coffee grinds and getting frustrated.

For awhile, we were going to Starbucks, but that’s not convenient for those of us who work at home.

Finally, finally we went to WholeLatteLove.com and splurged on a Gaggia fully automatic coffee machine.

This machine sits on our counter, and we fill it with fresh water and good beans. Then, with a push of a button, the machine measures, grinds and tamps the coffee beans, then heats of water and forces it through. The coffee drips into our cup in just a few seconds, hot and tasty with a beautiful foamy crema on top. We love that we could customized the coffee portions to our own personal coffee cups, and that we can choose an espresso, small or large coffee depending on the button we pick.

We also can make a quick decaf using the pre-ground section of the machine for a different bean. Or we can get hot water in an instant.

This machine does have a very high price tag; we won’t deny it: $1,299.

However, we have enjoyed every second of it. We no longer go around on a perpetual caffeine high the way we did when it first arrived. But we do love our coffee, and having fresh cups all day long at our disposal is just a fantastic treat.

Would you ever splurge on an automatic espresso coffee maker? What kind of coffee maker do you prefer?

we used a tassimo a few years ago but we are not coffee drinkers and it was good for those that visited our home for coffee, for tea or for hot chocolate for the kids. it was not as extravagant as yours–only about $170…but the lower price tag also meant it dies this last year. we got two years out of it and that was fine.
