Today, we spent two hours at our daughter’s preschool helping prepare the annual pancake breakfast that is part of Pajama Day.
The menu was simplified from other years. No more scrambled eggs, but instead, a meal of sausage, fruit and pancakes.
The teachers set up electric griddles and skillets on outdoor tables, and parents mix up the batter and cook up the food.
Children under age 5 don’t seem to mind stone-cold breakfasts. Today, we had a grandparent who was quite skilled with the pancake batter. He made Mickey Mouse shapes, letters, a turtle and other pancakes. (This was a bit of a problem when frantic mothers served the “R” pancake to the wrong child, and when some kids were devouring breakfast before the others.)
Overall, it was a lot of fun for everyone. Especially after a mother made an emergency run to Peet’s for a box full of yummy dark coffee.
